Over Half of Electricity From Solar by 2050?

An encouraging new report from the International Energy Agency says that more than 50% of the world’s electricity could come from solar sources by 2050.

Previously, the IEA projected solar would produce only 21% of the world’s energy by that year. But the new report is much more optimistic, and is based on certain truths about solar’s growth in recent years, such as the fact that solar power has proven to be an excellent private investment in countries the world over, that solar power will soon be cheaper than fossil fuels (meaning more and more people are jumping on board) and that the importance of this transition is becoming widely recognized.

Of course, technology’s development is impossible to predict. It may serve as either a major impediment or a major catalyst.

Let’s hope it’s the latter!
