A Crucial Moment in the Campaign Against Internet Metering

01/26/2011

The effort to stop big Canadian telecoms from charging by the byte for the Internet is gaining a lot of momentum. Open Media’s petition now has over 55,000 signatures. The issue has enjoyed national media coverage. The City of Vancouver has passed a motion against incremental billing, and the NDP has announced they are against it as well.

But in the next few days the CRTC is planning to make a critical decision regarding Internet metering. Now more than ever, the issue needs as much coverage as it can get. Sign Open Media’s petition here. More importantly, post about it on Facebook and Twitter. Shaw, Bell and Rogers have already begun imposing extra fees on those who are using ‘too much’ Internet. If enough people are made aware, however, we can end it.
