Canadian Telecoms Can Now Charge For How Much Internet You Use

01/12/2011

Canadians now have to pay more for less data. The CRTC is permitting big telecoms to force independent ISPs to charge by the gigabyte for the internet. This won’t just hurt us financially–it also promises to stifle innovation.

The best way to fight it is by fostering a public outcry. Governments can be embarrassed into adopting better policies–recent events have demonstrated that pretty clearly. All it takes are enough voices.

The issue just went mainstream, and you can help by posting this video of CBC coverage on Facebook or Twitter. There’s also a petition.
